At this stage of the year the sixth years are studying hard and
have finalised their CAO choices. Some students have also
applied to UCAS (The UK system) and some have also applied
for entry to Colleges in the USA. Those students applying for PLC
courses have now completed their interviews and have been successful.

The final career talk for sixth years will be held on May 16th. Catherine
O Connor will be giving a presentation on "Cracking the College Code".
She has recently written a book on the topic of the transtion for sixth year
students from secondary school to third level. She is very informative
and will provide advice on how to cope with this huge step. The parents
association have recommended her and are funding this career lecture.

All fifth years have now met with Ms Kenny/ Ms Dowling Maher and
some are on their second/ third appointments. It is important that the
fifth years use all the information gathered on the career information day.
It is lovely to meet the students and see all the work that they are putting
into their career research. The open days for this year are generally finished.

This event is held in early June and students get the opportunity to learn more
about their chosen area during a day long seminar. The Career information
was a real success. It was great to see the students asking questions and
attending the lectures given by UCD, TCD, DIT, DCU, ITT and IADT/Dun
Laoghaire Senior College.

Fourth year career week was our first ever! Students got the opportunity
to attend TCD and UCD on two separate trips. They also got the opportunity
to attend lectures on DCU, DIT, ITT and a PLC College. Fourth years have
finished their career projects, completed the DATS, met me for feedback,
attended to modules of career guidance. Completed a variety of interest test
which will be kept on file and generally have put a lot of thought into their
subject choice. The options evening, taster subject modules and career
guidance presentations and support have hopefully aided the students to make
wise decisions around their subject choice.
